Saint Paul Congress Park Update – Asbestos

Update

Our project in Congress Park is still moving forward. Anybody flipping houses knows that some set backs will happen. When we first purchased the house, we had it tested for asbestos. The tests came back just high enough that we had to do something about it. This is great for the environment of the home but not so great for our budget. There are a couple of ways to deal with asbestos. You can either abate it or encapsulate it. Abatement simply means that you get rid of it while encapsulating means that you cover it up.

How to Deal with Asbestos

In real estate and in our business we never want to cover up a potential problem. We want to get it fixed. When it comes to asbestos, we have to rethink that. It is typically at least as safe if we encapsulate it so that we do not disturb it and release the tiny asbestos fibers into the air. With our project and our vision there is simply too much in the way to encapsulate the asbestos containing areas while still opening up the floor plan enough for the result we desire.

This leads us to abatement. We have found this to be the most costly and time consuming way to deal with asbestos. It is however, the only way that we can achieve our end goal. The number one goal is keeping the end buyers safe in their new home. For this reason, we call in the professionals to deal with it.

You can see the set up to properly get rid of asbestos from the pictures. All contaminated areas are sealed off so no harmful material can escape. The crew is extremely diligent as far as the removal and clean up process as to ensure that no material is left behind. The entire process should take less than a week.

Asbestos is never fun when you come across it. Whenever we buy houses we look for signs of any potential hazards. We were lucky to have seen signs early on and try account for it. The end result will not only look great, but it is something that we know will be a safe and welcoming home to the next owner.
